Sir John de Stanley King of Man

The Stanleys were descended from Adam de Aldithley who accompanied William the Conqueror to England adn whose descendants inherited land in Stffordshire and Derbyshire. The surname derived from Stoneley in Derbyshire. John Stanley supported King Henry IV at the time of the rebellion ofthe marcher lord Edmund Mortimer in 1403 and he was knighted and rewarded with the fiefdom of Man, which had been taken from Henry Percy. In return Sir John's family had to provide two falcons at the coronation of each king of England. He never visited Man but spent his remaining years as lietenant of Ireland.
John married Isabel Lathom, daughter of Sir Thomas de Latham and Isabella Pilkington, about 1385 in Lancashire, England. (Isabel Lathom was born about 1364 in Lathom & Knowsley, Lancashire, England and died on 26 Oct 1414.)
