Herny's employer was American Plating Works 717 N. Ada St. Chicago. It is here that Henry suffered lung damage and suffered from emphysema later in life. The lung damage necessitated a move to cleaner air, so Henry and the family moved to a farm near Hamlet, Indiana around 1935. Theola and Leola worked the farm, along with Theola's oldest son Jack Henderson, until Jack left at the start of WWII. Henry worked as a stationary engineer for the Kingsbury Ordnance Plant in La Porte, Indiana until his retirement in 1953.
They moved from the farm to Quincy, Illinois in October 1959 to be with their daughter and her family.
Henry's Social Security application was made on 3 December 1936, showing:

He was a veteran of WWI, a member of the American Legion, and while in Chicago a member of the Pleodian Masonic Lodge and Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. In Quincy he was also a member of Lambert Masonic Lodge and Quincy Consistory.
